Restaurant Review : Flamingo Chinese Restaurant

The restaurant is tastefully furnished with Chinese decorations and pictures on the walls – the theme colours in the restaurant are red and black. The restaurant is spacious and airy and even when packed to capacity there is an element of privacy when dining.

We were shown to our table by a really delightful, helpful and super efficient waitress who provided us with menus and took our drinks orders. While waiting for our drinks to arrive we had a glance at the menu which was full of different meal options. As I mentioned earlier, I was really taken aback at how many vegetarian options were available to us. We had all eaten Chinese food before so ordering from the menu was not a problem – having said that though, even if you have never had Chinese food before, you would not be lost as the staff and management at Flamingo are more than happy to help you interpret what they have. We decided to try a variety of different dishes for both our starters and our main meals and so we ordered the Veggie Wanton Soup, the Chicken Hot and Sour Soup (1800 Frw), the Pork Steamed Dumplings and the Chicken Spring Rolls (700 Frw) for starters. They were delicious and really filling. Our main meals consisted of Bean Curd with
mushrooms and spring onions (3800 Frw), Fried Noodles with vegetables (2500 Frw), Steamed rice, Hot Gongbao Fish cubes with peanuts (2000 Frw) and Chicken with Cashew nuts and a bowl of chillies on the side.

There always seems to be room for more - even after such a hearty, tasty meal – so we had a look the menu to see what was on offer in the way of desserts. My two colleagues decided to give the desserts a skip and opted for more beers, but I definitely wasn’t going home without trying at least one of the desserts on the menu. I ordered the Banana Flambe (3000 Frw) with a pot of Chinese tea. The dessert was divine – a really good way to end a good meal and the perfect evening out with colleagues.

Flamingo Chinese Restaurant is a family owned restaurant with Fina Uwineza at the helm as the Manager. The restaurant has a fully stocked, licensed bar with a wide variety of beers, spirits, white wines and red wines. Open on Sundays through to Saturdays from 12pm- 3pm for the lunch trade and then from 6pm to 11pm
for the dinner trade.
